If your home’s site is in a flood zone, then you’ll want to do what you can in order to prevent flood damage from occurring. There are two main ways to do this – dry flood proofing and wet flood proofing. The following are a few dry flood proofing tips that you should use:
Dry flood proofing is the act of preventing flood waters from ever entering your home in the first place. One of the ways in which you can do this is by coating your home’s foundation in waterproof sealants or by using plastic sheeting. Any doors and windows that are located below the flood plain elevation will need to be sealed as well. One thing that you should keep in mind is that only houses that are built on concrete slabs without cellars or basements can be treated with dry flood proofing. Homes that have brick siding are more suitable for this practice as well since they can withstand more pressure. Homes with wood siding may not be able to take the hydrostatic pressure, resulting in external damage.
