    Stay away from downed power lines – Just because a power line might be down does not mean that it is dead. Stay away from downed power lines!

  • Be careful if there is flooding – If your basement has flooded, do not go into the water if the electrical outlets are submerged. You should also avoid turning the power off if you need to stand in water in order to do so.
  • Don’t use water-damaged electronics – Have your electronics properly restored if they’ve been damaged by water. You may even need to replace some of your appliances and electronics.
  • Unplug electrical appliances – If the power goes out, unplug all electrical appliances. This will prevent your circuits from overloading when the power comes back on.
