Everybody looks forward to Thanksgiving. Not only is it a time to get together with friends and family, but it’s a time to enjoy a huge meal together! If you plan on cooking for a large group of people, then be sure to keep the following safety tips in mind to help reduce the risk of a fire:

If you are using the stove to grill, broil or fry food, then don’t leave the kitchen at any time. If you need to leave, turn the stove off or get an adult to watch the food for you.

  • Don’t wear loose clothing that can accidentally catch fire over an open flame.
  • Set a timer to remind you that food is cooking. Always check your food on a regular basis when it is cooking.
  • Keep kids clear of the area around the kitchen that is being used to cook dinner.
  • Keep all items that can catch fire away from your stovetop. This includes wooden utensils, oven mitts, towels, food packaging and more.
  • Check your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector before you begin cooking.
