Whether your interest is in preserving our clean water supply or lowering your bills, conserving water is a great way to accomplish either end. Though we’re not typically short of water in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area, the drought of 2012 made many in our area more aware of the need to conserve our clean water supply. Here are three ways you can lower your water usage.

3 Great Ways to Conserve Water

1) If it’s leaking, fix it.

Leaks are the top source of water waste in our country. Whether it’s the toilet that has a slow leak from the tank that runs every hour, pipes that have seen better years and are beginning to drip or fixtures that are dripping hundreds of gallons of water down the drain every year, taking the time to fix leaks around your home will prevent a lot of money and water from going down the drain.

2) If it’s old, upgrade it.

Newer faucets, showers and toilets use much less water than those manufactured in years past. Toilets alone have gone from a wasteful 5 gallons per flush to a slim 1.1 gallons per flush.

3) If it’s full, wash it.

Whether it’s your washing machine or dishwasher, running partial loads wastes a lot of water. Only run full loads.

By trying any of these three tips, you can see a significant savings on your utility bill while enjoying that warm, fuzzy feeling because of the water you’ve saved.
