Dealing with water damage in your home can be a real pain, especially when you consider how much water damage can end up costing you. The following are three simple tips that can help you to avoid water damage from occurring in your home:

  1. Use smart sensors – Install low-temperature and leak sensors. If your pipes are getting too cold or a small leak is detected, an alert will be sent to your smartphone so that you can deal with the issue before your pipes freeze and burst or the leak grows.
  2. Use stainless steel washer hoses – Old rubber hoses can rupture somewhat easily. Stainless steel washer hoses do not. Make sure you get ones that are long enough to provide a bit of slack and check for cracks or leaks every six months.
  3. Test your backup sump pump – If your sump pump fails, you’ll want to make sure that your backup will work. You can check the battery to the backup by unplugging your main pump and fill the pit up with water to see if the backup turns on.
